Melbourne City Council said that the total budget was approximately $700 million over five years and that the majority of this will be spent on water protection, air and stormwater services.

While the money is not new money, the Council acknowledged that the amount needed to help improve flood management and the future health of the city’s coastal environment will be much less.
Under the plan the councils will share costs for the water management projects with private corporations which will be using them for flood damage reduction, water infrastructure improvement and coastal protection.
