Us france still at odds as g8 summit winds down
Faced with the possibility of a collapse of the G8 summit in Italy, French President Francois Hollande has warned the UK’s biggest bloc not to risk further economic damage by taking decisions “on behalf of the rest of the EU”.
“The EU has to think of the UK’s interests,” Mr Hollande told AFP in an exclusive interview published on Thursday.
The crisis in Libya has also left the bloc with a huge humanitarian crisis in the Mediterranean and is raising fears about the fate of hundreds of thousands who have taken refuge in Greece.
Mr Hollande said Europe had to keep a watch on what was happening on the ground to avoid the “catastrophe” of an “apocalyptic scenario”.
The euro fell to a thr넷마블 포커ee-year low against the dollar and French stock markets tumbled.
UK Prime Minister David Cameron was due to hold talks with French Prime Minister Mm카지노anuel Valls in Paris in the hours before the summit.
Mr Valls, who is expected to face pressure in London and Paris to do more to support refugees fleeing war, called on the G7 world leaders not to make “political compromises” during the summit.

Speaking at a conference of the French Association of International Monetary Agencies (CIMB), a group of finance ministers, European Council President Donald Tusk also urged the G7 leaders to take a united front against Russia and Syria as the conflict raged there.
G7 ‘takes no prisoners’
Mr Cameron has said Britain must be prepared to “stand up” to Russia.
G8 leaders will be meeting at Marrakesh from November 29-30. They were meeting on the third day of the four-day summit but on Friday were on a plane home as the crisis grew worse.
While Mr Hollande said Britain had “taken a very tough stance” against Russian President Vladimir Putin, he said France would have no veto over G8 decisions on Russia.
“We will have to use some common sense, but the G8 (성남안마G8 group of finance ministers), we will be there as you and the United Kingdom and not on the foreign policy agenda. And we will have nothing to fear,” Mr Hollande said.
